Caleb's Coffee Adventures
January 21, 2010
It is a great joy for Equal World Coffee to hear from our customers and learn how you are using our coffee to better the world.
The following story is one of our all time favorites so far...
We hope you enjoy learning how one little boy in Colorado is determined to make a difference.
Caleb is 7 years old.
He has been learning about Rwanda and about how some of the children have to struggle just to get enough to eat - so he decided on his own he could do something to help.
Caleb knew all about Equal World Coffee because of his church.
They sell coffee to support their sponsored children and mission in Rwanda.
He told his parents that he had some goals - and wanted to use Equal World Coffee to reach them.
Caleb's Goals:
- Help the poor coffee farmers of Rwanda earn a fair wage.
- Help sponsor a child in Rwanda with profits from his sales.
- Save a small % of the money to buy something for himself.
(Right now he is saving for a little motorcycle but it seems to change every few days his folks said).
So Caleb bought 50 Bags of Equal World Coffee and is now making it happen!
He keeps a sales binder and goes door to door telling people what he is doing, why, and where each dollar of the money goes. As of today he has sold 30 bags!
He is responsible for keeping track of his inventory, reordering and balancing his checking account. The bank told his parents he was their youngest customer...ever!
His parents assist him when he needs help.
Just recently Caleb told his parents that he had "hired some assistants."
His 5 year old little brother, the girl next door and a buddy down the street now join him from time to time on his after school selling ventures.
When asked how he was going to pay them - he said he would just split his portion - followed by a "That only seems fair dad."
He won't take any of the funds away from the farmer or his sponsored brother.
Caleb and his assistant(s) plan on growing their market and following up with the same people every few weeks that bought the first 30 bags . He plans on going back to sell them more when they run out.
His parents are excited about all that Caleb is learning and how this grows his heart for those in need.
Stay tuned - I have a hunch we may hear more from Caleb and his coffee adventures!
